The ‘.Semicon’ revolution takes big leap: Indian firm, global biggie unite to produce wearable tech

Sanand: In a landmark step for India’s semiconductor self-reliance, Kaynes Semicon Private Limited, a pioneering Indian semiconductor manufacturer, has entered into a strategic partnership with Infineon Technologies, a global leader in semiconductor solutions.

The collaboration, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aims to accelerate India’s presence in the global semiconductor supply chain by introducing the nation’s first Made-in-India MEMs Microphone and advanced semiconductor packaging solutions.

Strengthening India’s semiconductor supply chain

At the heart of this partnership is the launch of Kaynes Semicon’s first MEMs Microphone, built using Infineon’s market-proven bare die technology. This innovation will primarily cater to the fast-growing True Wireless Stereo (TWS) earbuds market, placing Kaynes Semicon at the forefront of wearable technology manufacturing in India.

In addition, Infineon will supply high-performance power solution bare die wafers, which Kaynes Semicon will package into discrete and module semiconductor products tailored for the Indian market.

The collaboration is designed to establish a cost-optimized, locally integrated supply chain — offering customers faster turnaround times, energy-efficient solutions, and enhanced reliability.

Driving innovation across key industries

Together, Infineon and Kaynes Semicon will address critical semiconductor demands in India across multiple high-growth industries:

  • Energy and Renewables – Delivering high-efficiency semiconductors for solar, wind, and smart energy management.
  • Industrial and Consumer Applications – Enhancing energy efficiency and performance in smart appliances and advanced manufacturing systems.

This initiative aligns with the Indian government’s vision for semiconductor self-reliance by reducing import dependency and laying the foundation for future innovations in automotive, industrial, renewable energy, consumer electronics, and data centre applications.

Leadership speaks

“By bringing together our know-how in semiconductors with the packaging and supply chain expertise of Kaynes Semicon, we are confident this partnership will drive India’s high-tech manufacturing push to greater heights. Congratulations to Kaynes Semicon on the opening of their new Gujarat plant, and we look forward to closer collaboration in the future,” said CS Chua, President and Managing Director, Infineon Technologies Asia Pacific.

Highlighting the milestone, Raghu Panicker, CEO, Kaynes Semicon, added, “The launch of our first Made-in-India MEMs Microphone, powered by Infineon’s technology, is a proud moment for the Indian semiconductor industry. We are enabling next-gen innovations across wearable tech, renewables, and industrial sectors in partnership with a trusted global leader.”
