South Western Railways observes World Environment Day with gusto

The Bengaluru Division of South Western Railway observed World Environment Day 2026 recently with a series of awareness and environmental protection activities across the division.

The occasion also marked the culmination of the World Environment Day Campaign conducted from 15 May 2026 under the theme ‘Climate Change.’

As part of the observance, Ashutosh Kumar Singh, Divisional Railway Manager, Bengaluru, administered the World Environment Day pledge to officers and staff at KSR Bengaluru Railway Station, reaffirming the collective commitment towards environmental conservation and sustainable practices.

A skit presented by the Scouts and Guides team highlighted the importance of protecting trees, the hazards of single-use plastics, and the need to maintain cleanliness.

The performance effectively conveyed key environmental messages and encouraged responsible behaviour among passengers and railway staff.

On the occasion, Singh also distributed cloth bags to passengers, urging them to adopt eco-friendly alternatives and reduce the use of single-use plastics.

A tree plantation drive was also conducted in the premises of the Divisional Railway Manager’s Office, reinforcing the division’s commitment to increasing green cover and promoting ecological balance.

A selfie stand themed on environmental awareness was inaugurated by the DRM to encourage public participation and promote environmental conservation through social engagement.

World Environment Day was also observed at various stations, railway colonies, and establishments across Bengaluru division through the administration of the Environment Day Pledge, tree plantation drives, and awareness programmes, reflecting the division’s continued commitment to environmental sustainability and climate action.
