200-acre Semiconductor Park in KWIN City likely by this December

Bengaluru: A 200-acre Semiconductor Park in Phase I of KWIN City is expected to become operational by December this year, Minister for Industries M.B. Patil recently announced.

He also said Karnataka’s upcoming Aerospace and Defence Policy 2026-2031 would place strong emphasis on developing integrated clusters for advanced electronic warfare systems, embedded software, electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (e-VTOL) technologies and payloads for the space sector.

The Minister was speaking at the inaugural session of the 15th Strategic Electronics Summit-2026, held at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) in Bengaluru.

Patil said the State government had, two years ago, approved investments worth Rs 23,000 crore in the semiconductor and advanced Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) sectors.

These investments were expected to generate more than 3,500 high-skilled engineering jobs.

“Applied Materials India is investing Rs 4,851 crore, Lam Research Rs 15,901 crore and Bharat Semi Systems Rs 2,342 crore in Karnataka. To complement these investments, the government will integrate the State’s micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) into the global semiconductor supply chain,” he added.

Patil said Karnataka’s vision extends well beyond manufacturing. “Companies should be able to undertake the entire value chain within the State — from design and development to prototyping, testing, certification and exports. The State is fully prepared to partner with industry in achieving this objective,” he said and urged industry stakeholders to make Karnataka the preferred destination for the implementation of Semiconductor Mission 2.0.

Patil said Karnataka was a national leader in research, deep-tech design and equipment engineering.

“The State also has a strong ecosystem of Global Capability Centres (GCCs) and research and development facilities. In addition, Bengaluru is home to more than 100 chip design companies, including several engaged in cutting-edge 3-nanometre chip design. Investors may leverage these strengths and invest in Karnataka’s rapidly expanding semiconductor ecosystem,” he said.

On the occasion, the Minister released the ELCINA Report-26 and also unveiled Wings of Astra, a book authored by Colonel Lakshyajeet Singh Chauhan on the future of drones and emerging technologies.

C-DOT Chief Executive Officer Dr Rajkumar Upadhyay, Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) Chairman and Managing Director Manoj Jain, Joint Secretary Sushil Pal, DRDO Director General Dr B.K. Das, and Lieutenant-General Rajeev Sahni addressed the gathering and shared their perspectives on emerging trends in the strategic electronics sector.
