South Western Railway achieves milestone in energy efficiency

Bengaluru: The Bangalore Division of the South Western Railway has achieved the prestigious Shunya+ certification for six Railway buildings from the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE).

The six buildings are Deverapalle Station building, Malugur Station building, Indian Railway Institute of Disaster Management, Hejjala, Divisional Railway Hospital, Bengaluru, Narayanapuram Station building and Oddarahalli Station building.

A Shunya+ or Net Positive Energy Building (NPEB) is a building that relies purely on renewable sources to produce as much energy as it uses and supplies excess generated electricity to the grid, usually as measured over the course of a year.

The above buildings’ electrical energy consumption is totally met through renewable energy sources i.e. solar panels of various capacities installed at rooftops of the buildings.

This significant achievement underscores Bengaluru division’s commitment to energy efficiency, sustainability, and the process of becoming a net-zero carbon emitter in building infrastructure, a press release from Dr. Manjunath Kanamadi, Chief Public Relations Officer, South Western Railway, Hubballi, has said.
