Neil Simon’s ‘The Sunshine Boys’ all set to enthrall Bengaluru

Bengaluru: The Sunshine Boys is now set to enthrall Bengaluru.

Staged by The Dramatic Circle Hyderabad (DCH), the celebrated Broadway and West End comedy by Neil Simon is being staged in the city for the first time, after sold-out performances in Hyderabad and Vizag.

Renowned for its razor-sharp wit and laugh-a-minute pacing, ‘The Sunshine Boys’ is also a deeply touching exploration of ageing, memory, pride, and friendship.

First staged in the 1970s and revived to great acclaim in the late 1990s, the play enjoyed major success in both its original and revival runs.

It was later adapted into a television movie and subsequently into a feature film produced by MGM.

The story follows two ageing vaudeville comedians — once a legendary comic duo for over four decades — who split bitterly and have not spoken to each other for over a decade.

Circumstances force them to reunite for a nostalgic ‘retro’ television shoot, reopening old wounds and unresolved rivalries. What unfolds is a delightful collision of sharp wit, bruised egos, nostalgia, and irrepressible comedy.

Over the years, The Sunshine Boys has enjoyed both critical and popular success. Its various stage and screen adaptations have received multiple Academy Award, Golden Globe, and Tony Award nominations, with several wins.

Notable performers who have appeared in different productions include Walter Matthau, George Burns, Jack Lemmon, Woody Allen, Whoopi Goldberg, and Sarah Jessica Parker.
This production by Dramatic Circle Hyderabad is directed by veteran theatre director Pranava Singhal. The lead roles are portrayed by senior DCH actors Ranjan Ranganathan and Jayant Dwarkanath, whose performances bring depth, warmth, and authenticity to these iconic characters.

Having played to full houses in Hyderabad and Vizag, The Sunshine Boys will now be performed in Bengaluru for two special shows on 26 April 2026 at Jagriti Theatre, Whitefield, at 3:30 pm and 7:30 pm.
