Mastering ‘air-craft’: How Bengaluru airport has turned into an ‘olfactory heaven’

Bengaluru: To elevate passenger experience through a deeper ‘sensory connection’, the Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, has unveiled its signature fragrance, Dancing Bamboo, currently deployed at Terminal 2 (T2).

Developed in collaboration with Aéromé and crafted exclusively for Bengaluru airport, the fragrance introduces an emotional layer to the travel experience, transforming it into a calm, reflective and memorable experience, an official release says.

As airports around the world evolve into being beyond just transit points, KIA is reimagining travel through a passenger-first lens, rooted in emotion, familiarity, and memory.

The new signature fragrance, a subtle, yet powerful olfactory extension of the brand, looks to make every arrival and departure at Bengaluru feel more familiar, global and luxurious.

Shalini Rao, Chief Marketing Officer, Bangalore International Airport Ltd, said: “Every journey is more than just a departure or arrival — we see it as an opportunity to connect deeply with our passengers. With our signature fragrance, we aim to transform that vision into a sensory journey that embodies the spirit of the airport — serene, rooted in nature and quietly luxurious. This fragrance adds a new dimension to our brand and reflects our commitment to creating spaces that resonate with the warmth, culture, and identity of the airport. Whether through our F&B, retail offerings, personalised lounge services, art or engaging environments, we envisage routine travel turning into memories that last.”

The fragrance at the airport will be gently diffused at key passenger touchpoints, including check-in and arrival areas, infusing the space with a consistent and calming olfactory signature.

Another milestone

Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) closed FY 2024–25 with strong performance across key metrics. The airport became the first in South India to serve over 41.88 million passengers, earning a place in the ACI Large Airport category, and processed 502,480 tonnes of cargo. As South India’s busiest airport and the third largest in the country, KIA reached a significant milestone in February 2025, surpassing 350 million cumulative passengers since its opening.

In terms of cargo, the airport continues to be the Numero Uno for processing perishable cargo in India for the fourth consecutive year.
