How Toyota Kirloskar Motors is championing sustainable logistics, eco-conscious living

Bengaluru: Marking a milestone in corporate environmental stewardship, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) culminated its Environment Month 2025 celebrations with a strong call to action for sustainable business practices, green logistics, and community-driven eco-conscious living.

Themed ‘Sustainable Resource Management Drive’ and driven by ‘Zero-Base Thinking’, the month-long campaign reflected TKM’s deeper alignment with Toyota’s global Environmental Challenge 2050 and India’s broader green transition goals.

More than 3,100 participants — including employees, suppliers, dealers, students, and community members — rallied around TKM’s ambitious sustainability initiatives, which spanned clean logistics, plastic elimination, and circular economy adoption.

These collective actions not only amplified awareness but also demonstrated how large-scale industrial ecosystems can drive grassroots change.

Shifting gears to greener roads

In a bold move toward green mobility, TKM introduced 17 electric trucks into its logistics operations, to ply across five key supply routes. This initiative underlines TKM’s commitment to the Lifecycle Zero CO₂ Emissions Challenge, a core pillar of Toyota’s global sustainability framework.

By integrating these emission-free trucks, the company aims to dramatically reduce tailpipe pollution and optimize energy use across its value chain — right from material sourcing to final delivery.

To further cut emissions and logistics inefficiencies, TKM also strengthened its Mixed Logistics Model and introduced a ‘Return Logistics Reduction’ approach.

This not only streamlined vehicle delivery routes but significantly reduced empty truck trips — a hidden but impactful source of carbon emissions. In addition, the adoption of CNG-powered vehicles added another dimension to its low-carbon logistics journey.

Innovation meets inclusion at the ‘Sustainovation Hub’

At the heart of the Bidadi plant, TKM hosted an immersive Green Exhibition under its ‘Sustainovation Hub’— a showcase of how corporations can catalyze sustainable consumption.

The exhibition featured a thoughtfully curated range of lifestyle products made from biodegradable materials, sustainable textiles, and natural ingredients —spanning eco-friendly cleaning solutions, chemical-free groceries, and reusable packaging.

Visitors were encouraged to rethink everyday choices and transition to a healthier, toxin-free lifestyle that reduces plastic waste and conserves vital resources.

What truly set the initiative apart was the inclusion of young minds. Students from the Toyota Technical Training Institute (TTTI) presented over 30 sustainability-driven models at a zero-cost innovation exhibition.

These hands-on, creative prototypes were crafted entirely from waste materials and explored real-world themes such as water conservation, renewable energy, and waste management.

Mentored by TKM experts, the initiative underscored the power of education in shaping future environmental leaders.
