18 years. 18 Parvas. And RCB, finally, shows its ‘Virat Swaroop’

Bengaluru: In a night drenched in emotion, redemption, and history, Virat Kohli stood at the heart of a moment nearly two decades in the making, as Royal Challengers Bengaluru finally clinched their maiden Indian Premier League title — a triumph that transcended sport and became a story of loyalty, resilience, and belief.

“The whole journey for 18 years flashed before my eyes,” Kohli said, his voice carrying the weight of years spent chasing a dream that had long eluded one of cricket’s most passionate icons.

For a franchise that has lived through heartbreaks, near-misses, and endless expectations, this victory was not just about lifting a trophy — it was about rewriting destiny.

Kohli, who has been synonymous with RCB since the league’s inception, reflected on the emotional gravity of the occasion thus: “It was a very special night for all of us at RCB. I have been here since day one,” he said, acknowledging the rare continuity that has defined his journey with the team.

Calm before the storm

Heading into the high-stakes final against Punjab Kings, Kohli revealed there was a quiet, steely confidence within the RCB camp — a belief forged through years of experience and lessons learned the hard way.

“When we reached the finals, I felt a sense of calm confidence. But it’s never a cakewalk. It’s a Final — and the opposition has earned their place too,” he noted, underlining the competitive intensity of the IPL.

That awareness, coupled with the scars of past heartbreaks, became RCB’s driving force.

RCB’s history in the IPL has often been defined by “almost moments” — campaigns that promised glory but ended in despair. For Kohli and his teammates, those memories became a source of strength rather than burden.

“The near misses gave us extra motivation to hold our nerve,” Kohli said. “This is not by chance. We have beaten some of the best teams to get here. We have earned the right to be here.”

A surreal finish

As the final moments unfolded, the magnitude of the achievement began to sink in. For Kohli, it was a flood of memories — victories, defeats, sacrifices — all converging into a single defining moment.

“It was quite surreal… unbelievable,” he admitted. “All the ups and downs, all the good and bad moments — it’s like everything is unfolding in front of you. That experience, I will never forget.”

The tension peaked in the final over, where victory was within touching distance yet not fully secured.

“Even when you know the game is sealed, you are still hoping everything goes perfectly,” Kohli said, capturing the nervous energy of those last few deliveries. “Waiting for those final balls was probably the toughest part of the night.”

A triumph beyond cricket

RCB’s long-awaited title win is more than just a sporting milestone — it is a testament to perseverance and unwavering loyalty. And at its centre stands Kohli, whose journey with the franchise mirrors the spirit of the team itself: relentless, passionate, and unyielding.

After 18 years of hope, heartbreak, and belief, Bengaluru finally has its crowning moment — and a story that will echo through IPL history for generations to come.
