Bengaluru/Farnborough: In a major boost to India’s aerospace manufacturing capabilities, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has secured a long-term contract from Safran Aircraft Engines to manufacture and supply critical turbine ring forgings for the globally successful CFM LEAP aircraft engine programme.
The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the Farnborough International Airshow 2026, further strengthening HAL’s position in the international civil aviation supply chain.
Under the multi-year agreement, HAL will produce near-net shape turbine ring forgings made from advanced superalloys at its state-of-the-art Ring Rolling facility in the Foundry and Forge Division at Bengaluru.
These high-precision components are designed for the rotating section of the LEAP engine, where they must withstand extremely high temperatures and demanding operating conditions, making them vital for engine performance, efficiency and reliability.
The agreement was signed by Praveen B, General Manager, Foundry and Forge Division, HAL, and Dominique Dupuy, Senior Vice President – Purchasing, Safran Aircraft Engines, in the presence of HAL Chairman and Managing Director Ravi K. and Jayakrishnan S., CEO of HAL’s Bangalore Complex.
Describing the agreement as a “landmark achievement”, Ravi K. said the contract reflected the growing confidence of leading global aerospace manufacturers in HAL’s advanced manufacturing capabilities and technological expertise.
He said HAL and Safran have shared a trusted partnership spanning several decades, and the new agreement will further deepen cooperation while enabling HAL to expand its presence in the global civil aerospace market.
He added that the project would also help develop advanced manufacturing technologies in India and strengthen the country’s capabilities for future aero-engine programmes.
Dominique Dupuy said the company was pleased to continue its partnership with HAL, noting that the collaboration aligned with Safran’s strategy of building a strong and locally integrated supply chain as it ramps up production of LEAP engines to meet rising global demand.
The CFM LEAP engine, which powers the latest generation of single-aisle commercial aircraft, has become one of the world’s fastest-selling aircraft engines.
HAL’s entry into its global supply chain is expected to enhance India’s role in high-value aerospace manufacturing while showcasing the country’s capability to produce complex engine components that meet stringent international quality standards.
The long-term contract marks another significant milestone in the strategic partnership between HAL and Safran Aircraft Engines and highlights India’s growing importance as a trusted manufacturing hub for the global aerospace industry.
