Governor lauds Amrit Bharat Station Scheme as new station unveiled in Dharwad

Dharwad: Governor of Karnataka Thaawarchand Gehlot participated in the inauguration ceremony of the newly redeveloped Amrit Bharat Railway Station in Dharwad recently.

The event was part of a nationwide initiative in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated 103 Amrit Bharat Stations across India, including five in Karnataka — Dharwad, Munirabad, Bagalkot, Gadag, and Gokak Road.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Gehlot said, “It is a matter of pride that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Modi, over 1,000 stations are being redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. Today’s inauguration of 103 stations is a historic step towards creating world-class railway infrastructure.”

Highlighting the significance of Indian Railways in national development, the Governor added, “A modern and efficient railway system is vital for economic growth. The Indian Railways serves as the backbone of national connectivity and progress. Under the leadership of the Prime Minister, the Government of India is transforming railway stations, trains, tracks, and signalling systems to global standards.”

He noted that major investments are underway in Karnataka’s railway sector. “Projects worth Rs. 50,792 crore are in progress across the state. In the Union Budget 2025–26, Rs. 7,564 crore has been allocated for Karnataka. Additionally, 61 stations have been identified for redevelopment into world-class stations,” he stated.

He also acknowledged the contribution of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme in enhancing passenger amenities and boosting regional trade and commerce.

“Through initiatives like Atmanirbhar Bharat and the local production of Vande Bharat trains, Indian Railways is moving toward a self-reliant and modern future,” he added.

The event was attended by Karnataka Legislative Council Speaker Basavaraj Horatti and senior railway and government officials.
