Beyond Bengaluru: State trying hard to court US semiconductor firm, for proposed unit in Mandya

Bengaluru: The Karnataka government, it is learnt, is keen to allot 100 acres of land in Mandya district to US-based semiconductor fabrication company M/s Sanson Group for establishing a manufacturing unit.

However, despite repeated efforts, senior officials of the company could not be reached regarding the proposal.

Emphasising the government’s interest in facilitating the project, Minister for Large and Medium Industries M.B. Patil has written to Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy for intervention.

Sharing details on Wednesday, Patil said Kumaraswamy had written to the State government on October 31 regarding the matter, to which a positive response has been sent on November 24.

“Meanwhile, several attempts have been made to contact Sanson Group’s Chief Technology Officer and Head of Indian Operations, Abhay K. Rai, to seek further details of the proposed project. However, there has been no response from his side so far,” Patil said.

Patil said there was no hurdle to allotting 100 acres to the company in Mandya district at a location with adequate water supply, power, and connectivity.

He added that if a formal request was received from the company, the feasibility of land allotment, along with the required approvals and infrastructure support, would be examined and the proposal taken forward expeditiously.

The responsibility for coordinating the process has been entrusted to the Commissioner of Industries, Gunjan Krishna.

Stating that the State government was committed to promoting high-tech industries, Patil said it was eager to ensure that the proposed investment project did not slip out of Karnataka.

He added that the project would contribute to employment generation and industrial growth in regions outside Bengaluru.
