Bengaluru takes ‘air-craft’ to the next dimension, with this technology centre…

Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar and Industries Minister M. B. Patil recently launched the state-of-the-art Airbus India Technology Centre at Titanium Tech Park near Kadugodi in the city.

On the occasion, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu participated in the event virtually.

Speaking at the event, Minister Patil said the centre developed by Airbus had the capacity to accommodate more than 5,000 employees and noted that it was the company’s second-largest digital centre and its third innovation centre globally.

The facility will make a significant contribution to the growth of the aerospace, defence and information technology sectors in the State, he said.

He further explained that Karnataka contributed nearly 60 per cent to the country’s aerospace and defence sectors, placing the State in a leading position. “The State is home to more than 400 aerospace and defence companies. Airbus conducts business worth 1.5 billion dollars annually with India. In addition, around 100 Indian companies are playing a leading role in the global aerospace ecosystem. The helicopter assembly facility recently launched at Vemagal Industrial Area is expected to roll out its first helicopter by mid-2027,” he added.

Patil also said that Bengaluru was expected to get another international airport by 2033, which will be as large as the existing Kempegowda International Airport.

“Minister Naidu has assured full cooperation for the project. His observation that India’s progress is closely linked to the growth of Bengaluru and Karnataka is welcome,” Patil said.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, in his Budget presented on Friday, also announced that a detailed feasibility report would be prepared for the proposed airport.

Jurgen Westermeier, Head of Airbus India, was present at the programme.
