Bengaluru: In the heart of India’s tech capital, where startups bloom and innovation thrives, a quiet yet powerful revolution has hit the streets.
It hums instead of roars. It accelerates like a rocket but treads lightly on the planet. It’s the AERA, India’s first geared electric motorcycle — launched by homegrown tech innovator, MATTER.
With its world-first Hypershift manual gearbox, intelligent connected features, and bold design, the MATTER AERA isn’t just another electric vehicle — it’s the coming together of performance, engineering, and emotion.
And where better to begin this next chapter in urban mobility than Bengaluru, a city that has long been synonymous with futuristic thinking?
MATTER’s decision to debut the AERA in Bengaluru was no coincidence. The city is home to a passionate and discerning biking community, a growing appetite for sustainable living, and a lifestyle that thrives on tech-driven convenience.
For MATTER, it offered the perfect testbed for what the future of motorbiking could look like.
“There’s no better city to begin this journey than Bengaluru — where innovation meets action on every street. The AERA is not just a new kind of electric bike; it’s a symbol of what the future of personal mobility can look like,” said Mohal Lalbhai, Founder and Group CEO of MATTER, at the launch event.
As a gesture of gratitude to its early believers, MATTER is offering an introductory price of ₹1.79 lakh for the first 500 riders in Bengaluru, complete with a free lifetime battery warranty — an additional ₹15,000 value.
The standard pre-registration showroom price starts at ₹1.88 lakh.
What makes AERA unique?
At the heart of the AERA lies a core innovation that sets it apart not only from electric bikes but from motorcycles in general — the Hypershift 4-speed manual transmission.
This is the first time such a system has been integrated into an electric powertrain anywhere in the world.
Each ride mode — Eco, City, and Sport — can be paired with different gears, allowing riders to create 12 unique combinations tailored to their preference, terrain, and mood.
Alongside its Hypershift innovation, AERA packs serious performance under the hood.
With a 5kWh high-energy battery, an IDC-certified range of up to 172 km, and 0–40 km/h acceleration in under 2.8 seconds, it promises an electrifying ride every time.
The motor and battery are both liquid-cooled, ensuring stability and peak efficiency even in stop-and-go traffic or hot summer days — real-world conditions Indian riders face daily.
The connected rider experience is driven by a 17.78 cm (7”) smart touchscreen dashboard, which integrates navigation, call and music controls, real-time ride data, and OTA updates.
Riders can also stay in control with the MATTER mobile app, offering remote lock/unlock, bike status, geo-fencing, and service alerts.
Sustainable, Smart, Stylish
While most electric vehicles talk numbers, MATTER speaks to the rider’s soul. The design of AERA is futuristic yet rooted in Indian DNA.
It’s bold and muscular, designed to stand out on highways and city streets alike. And with a running cost as low as ₹0.25 per kilometre, AERA doesn’t just make a style statement — it makes a smart financial one too.
Over three years, an AERA rider could save upwards of ₹1 lakh in fuel and maintenance costs when compared to traditional petrol bikes.
That’s sustainability with serious savings.
The safety quotient is equally high. Dual disc brakes with ABS, telescopic front fork, and dual rear suspension ensure maximum control and comfort.
Experience AERA in person
To make the AERA experience truly immersive, MATTER is set to launch its first Experience Hub in BTM Layout – 2nd Stage, near Vysya Bank Colony, 100ft Road.
This space will allow curious riders to explore the bike hands-on, take test rides, and understand the philosophy driving the MATTER movement.
Bookings for AERA are now live at www.matter.in, and deliveries will begin soon.
The road ahead
The launch of AERA in Bengaluru is just the beginning. MATTER has ambitious plans to roll out the AERA across other major Indian cities in a phased manner.
It is a declaration that India can lead the global electric mobility race, not just as a market, but as a maker of original, world-first innovations.
In a world craving cleaner, smarter mobility, MATTER has given us not just a glimpse of what’s coming — but a ride into the future.
