Survey of peripheral areas to be subsumed under GBA soon: Deputy CM

Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar recently said that a survey of areas around Bengaluru that would be included into the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) in the future has been ordered.

Speaking to reporters after a review meeting of local bodies in Bengaluru Urban district, he said, “We had a meeting with the officials of 12 local bodies in Bengaluru Urban district. Bengaluru is growing and the areas under BMRDA would be part of Bengaluru some day.”

“I have toured these areas and reviewed the developments on the ground. Basic infrastructure needs to be developed, and to avoid troubles in the future, I have instructed officials to prepare a master plan in association with the Public Works Department,” he said.

On the issue of ‘B’ Khata conversions, the Deputy CM said: “Many of the panchayats and municipalities in the periphery of Bengaluru will come under the GBA in the future and we need to be prepared. I have instructed officials to make preparations to convert ‘B’ khata lands to ‘A’ khata property. We are also planning to have a uniform tax collection mechanism.”

Stand on rampant illegal constructions

When asked about the menace of illegal constructions, the DCM said: “I have instructed officials to control illegal constructions. They have to follow the law while approving new layouts and buildings.”

Replying to a question on encroachment of rajakaluves, Shivakumar said, “All the properties in these areas will be mapped and digitised. We are also trying to create a sense of hygiene among people in these areas.”
