Rewriting India’s ‘Kavach Kundali’: BEL, CSIR join hands to indigenously develop advanced defence tech

Bengaluru: Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a Navaratna Defence Public Sector Undertaking and a leading player in India’s aerospace and defence electronics sector, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the CSIR–Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-CEERI), a premier research institute under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).

The collaboration marks a significant step towards indigenous design and development of critical technologies for defence and strategic applications.

Under this MoU, BEL and CSIR-CEERI will jointly work on the design and development of Microwave Vacuum Electron Devices (MVEDs), RF and Microwave products, advanced Antennas, and MEMS-based solutions catering to radar, communication, space, and other defence domains.

The partnership underscores India’s ongoing commitment to achieving self-reliance in cutting-edge technology areas vital for national security.

The MoU was exchanged between Niti Pandit, General Manager (Strategic Planning), BEL, and Dr. Niraj Sinha, Principal Scientist, CSIR-CEERI, during the Foundation Day celebrations of CSIR-CEERI at Pilani, Jhunjhunu district, Rajasthan.

Senior officials from both organisations were present at the occasion, reaffirming their commitment to foster strong industry-research collaboration for nation-building.

Speaking on the collaboration, BEL officials emphasised that the partnership with CSIR-CEERI will further accelerate the indigenisation of advanced electronic systems and components, enabling India’s defence ecosystem to reduce import dependency and build domestic manufacturing capabilities.
