Japanese firm launches Bengaluru Automation Centre to accelerate India’s smart manufacturing future

Bengaluru: OMRON, a global leader in industrial automation, has announced the inauguration of its new Automation Centre in Bengaluru, reinforcing the company’s long-term commitment to advancing India’s smart manufacturing transformation.

Strategically located in India’s technology capital, the centre becomes part of OMRON’s global network of 44 Automation centre and Proof of Concept (PoC) labs.

It is designed to support manufacturers across India — including micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) — to accelerate automation adoption and realize the vision of ‘Make in India, for the World.’

Aligned with the Government of India’s Make in India and Industry 4.0 initiatives, the Bengaluru Automation Centre aims to:

• Demonstrate practical automation solutions to address manufacturing challenges.
• Facilitate Proof-of-Concept development to validate technology applications.
• Provide technical training and skill development for engineers and operators, and
• Enable collaboration among manufacturers, machine builders, and system integrators to strengthen India’s industrial competitiveness.

The launch also reflects the deepening strategic partnership between India and Japan, with both nations expanding cooperation in technology, talent, and supply chain resilience.

Japan has committed to investing ¥10 trillion (approximately USD 65 billion) over the next decade in sectors such as semiconductors and digital industries —an initiative that complements OMRON’s efforts to position India as a trusted global hub for smart manufacturing and innovation.

India’s manufacturing sector is currently at a transformative juncture, with the government targeting an increase in its GDP contribution from around 15 percent to 23 percent over the next two decades. Industrial automation is expected to play a critical role in achieving this growth by driving productivity, precision and sustainability across industries.
