Kuppam (Andhra Pradesh): Industries Minister M. B. Patil recent said that intellectual courage was essential to effectively address the complexities of the contemporary world and the challenges it presents.
At the Agastya International Foundation, established in the city by scientist Ramji Raghavan, he noted that the initiative was carrying out commendable work in this direction and that the real creation of intellectual capital in the country was taking place in rural areas.
Speaking as chief guest at the Foundation’s annual event, Prerna-2026, Patil said the Agastya International Foundation, spread over 172 acres, was actively engaged in knowledge creation while remaining closely connected with rural communities. He added that data, transformative technologies, and emerging complex challenges were playing a crucial role in today’s world.
“Karnataka has long been recognised as an IT hub, and is now emerging as a centre for deep-tech innovation as well. It is the responsibility of the country’s talented youth to effectively harness India’s vast population for research and innovation,” he added.
He further stated that Karnataka held a leading position in sectors such as technology, ESDM, and aerospace. “Bengaluru alone hosts around 900 Global Capability Centres (GCCs) and the State offers a conducive ecosystem for investment,” he added.
Responding to a question, the Minister said that technologies such as AI, robotics, and semiconductors must reach children in rural areas, and industry leaders should work towards this goal.
He stressed that development of machines alone was not sufficient; it must be complemented by a strong spirit of innovation.
Citing his ‘Koti Vruksha’ initiative in Vijayapura district as an example, he said five crore saplings had already been planted and nurtured, and the number is expected to reach 10 crore over the next decade.
“This has helped create green cover in drought-prone regions. During my tenure as Irrigation Minister, I had undertaken the filling of water in over 3,000 lakes,” he added.
