Bengaluru: Data from routine security checks conducted by Namma Metro’s Security Squad on moving trains during non-peak hours over the last six months between September 2024 and March 2025 has revealed a staggering 27,000 offensive activities causing inconvenience to fellow passengers.
Such passengers were issued a strong warning without fines. One of the most common inconveniences was the playing of loud music by commuters – a total of 11,922 cases – causing inconvenience to fellow passengers.
Another frequent observation involved was not offering the priority seats meant for persons with disabilities (PwD), senior citizens, pregnant women, and those travelling with infants.
A staggering 14,162 instances of these seats being occupied by other passengers were noted, highlighting the need for greater awareness and consideration among commuters.
The consumption of eatables while travelling was noticed in 554 cases, despite guidelines discouraging this practice on trains. Additionally, 474 incidents involved commuters carrying oversized luggage.
Although no penalties were imposed for these actions, the Security Squad issued stern warnings aimed to discourage such behaviour and reinforce the importance of adhering to Namma Metro guidelines for a harmonious commute.
“We request our commuters to respect the guidelines for a pleasant commute and avoid taking chances for levy of penalties,” an official release by BMRCL has said.
