Karnataka’s ESCOMs directed to sponsor Electricity Safety Awareness programmes for common man

Bengaluru: With electricity consumption growing rapidly across Karnataka, enhancing public awareness on electrical safety has become increasingly important.

To strengthen safety awareness initiatives, all Electricity Supply Companies (ESCOMs) in the state will contribute ₹1 lakh per division towards the effective conduct of the National Electrical Safety Week organised by the Electrical Inspectorate, Additional Chief Secretary (Energy), Gaurav Gupta, recently said after inaugurating the National Electrical Safety Week organised by the Energy Department’s Electrical Inspectorate.

Gupta said: “Electricity is the most widely used form of energy in the world. Its usage is expanding rapidly, and awareness must grow accordingly. We must work collectively with a shared sense of responsibility.”

“To make this Safety Week more effective, all ESCOMs in the state will provide ₹1 lakh for each division. Along with creating awareness, preventive measures are also essential to avoid electrical accidents. Under the guidance of Energy Minister K.J. George, the necessary action plans will be formulated,” he added.

He further stated: “The government has prioritised new recruitments by resolving issues in the recruitment process and streamlining appointments to government posts. The government is currently taking steps to fill essential vacancies not only in government departments but also in corporations and boards.”

Speaking on the occasion, BESCOM Managing Director Dr. Shivashankara N. said: “Awareness on electrical safety must first be created among the public, Energy Department staff, and contractors. In this regard, officials of the Electrical Inspectorate should work in close coordination with district administrations.”

During the event, participants also took an oath on electrical safety. Vehicles equipped with LED screens, which will disseminate public awareness messages during the Safety Week, were flagged off.
