Kabini: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has said that repair works on Karnataka’s dams would be taken up on priority once the technical committee on dam safety submits its report.

Speaking to the media after offering ‘bagina’ at the Kabini reservoir recently, he said, “Our government had constituted a technical committee on dam safety after one of the gates at the Tungabhadra reservoir got damaged. We will take necessary action once we receive their submissions.”

He also added that the Kabini dam was not full for the last two years, but this year, the situation was better. The Kabini dam has been of great help to the people during rain-poor years.

“MLAs have submitted a proposal to develop the area. During the Cabinet meeting at Male Mahadeshwara Hills, we approved projects worth Rs 35 crore. We have also submitted a Detailed Project Report for a drip irrigation project at a cost of Rs 88 crore,” the DCM said.

On the proposal to conduct a ‘Kabini Utsava’ and ‘Cauvery aarti’, Shivakumar said the issue would be discussed with the district in-charge Minister and that the government was committed to creating employment through tourism.
