Bengaluru: In a pioneering move to nurture scientific curiosity among students — particularly from rural India — Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Centre for Nano and Soft Matter Sciences (CeNS) to establish the HAL Advanced Academic Initiation Centre at CeNS’ Arkavathi campus in Karnataka.
The initiative, a part of HAL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) outreach, aims to deepen science education and popularise research through hands-on engagement.
The agreement was signed by Pradeep Kumar, General Manager (HR), HAL, and Prof. B.L.V. Prasad, Director, CeNS, in the presence of Dr. D.K. Sunil, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), HAL, M.G. Balasubrahmanya, Director (HR), HAL, and other senior officials from both institutions.
The centre will act as a dedicated hub under CeNS’ acclaimed Vigyaani Vidyarthi Vichar Vinimay (V4) programme, which has already introduced over 20,000 students from 200 institutions across the country to cutting-edge advancements in science and technology.
With the establishment of the HAL Advanced Academic Initiation Centre, the outreach is set to expand significantly.
“The HAL Advanced Academic Initiation Centre will enable CeNS to reach out to a greater number of students and foster curiosity among young minds, especially those from rural areas who have limited exposure to advanced scientific concepts,” said Dr. D. K. Sunil, CMD, HAL, underscoring the broader vision of equity in education through scientific empowerment.
Prof. Prasad echoed the sentiment, lauding HAL’s commitment to scientific literacy thus: “This centre will go a long way in demonstrating various scientific facts to large groups of students with relative ease. We are now better equipped to handle more requests from schools, particularly in underserved areas, and to inspire a future generation of thinkers and innovators.”
The collaboration between a premier aerospace entity like HAL and a scientific research institute such as CeNS highlights the importance of industry-academia partnerships in building a scientifically aware society. The HAL Advanced Academic Initiation Centre is poised to become a model for socially impactful science outreach in India.
