Government hastens work on Kushtagi power substation for smooth harness of renewable energy

In an effort to ensure the seamless evacuation of renewable green energy from North Karnataka to the rest of the state and country, Dr. V. Ram Prasath Manohar, Managing Director of the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL), has directed officials to complete the construction of the massive 400kV Extra-High Voltage (EHV) substation in Kushtagi, Koppal district, by March 2027.

During a comprehensive site inspection recently, he emphasized that the Doni-Kushtagi feeder line was absolutely critical for charging the new substation. This transmission line acts as the vital lifeline for green energy transportation, and the substation can only be operationalized once this corridor is fully completed.

Acknowledging that Right of Way (RoW) issues have obstructed progress on this crucial power line in specific areas, Dr. Manohar convened a high-level coordination meeting with the Koppal Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police.

Setting a strict three-month deadline for engineering teams to clear all transmission hurdles, he instructed the district administration and police officials to provide rapid, on-ground support to resolve the land and RoW disputes.

Once commissioned, the new substation will serve as a massive gateway, seamlessly feeding large volumes of green energy generated by local solar and wind power plants directly into the state’s main grid.

“The substation works are progressing at a robust pace, but the station cannot function without its feeder line. The Doni-Kushtagi power line is the core of this green energy transportation hub. We will personally monitor the resolution of all localized RoW issues over the next three months, and the Koppal DC and SP have been instructed to provide necessary support in this regard. By working in tandem with the district administration, we will ensure the entire system is fully charged and operational by March 2027,” he affirmed.

In a separately worded statement, Energy Minister KG George said: “The rapid implementation of our transmission projects is essential for the successful integration of renewable energy in the state. The Kushtagi 400kV substation and its connecting Doni-Kushtagi line will fundamentally transform the power landscape of the Kalyana Karnataka region. Through coordination between KPTCL and the district administration, we are ensuring that the project is completed within the stipulated March 2027 deadline. Our government is committed to building a green energy-driven future.”
