Bengaluru: Global technology leader ABB has strengthened its presence in Karnataka with new manufacturing investments aimed at supporting high-growth sectors such as data centres, metro rail, renewable energy, infrastructure and metals.
The expansion includes new facilities, product line additions, and service and training centres across ABB’s Electrification, Motion and Automation businesses in the Bengaluru region.
The development was marked by Morten Wierod, who laid the foundation stone for a new integrated Motion facility at Peenya and inaugurated the company’s Electrification and Automation Campus-2 at Nelamangala on Kunigal Road.
ABB already has a strong presence in Bengaluru, one of its key global manufacturing and technology hubs. With the latest expansion, the company will operate three manufacturing locations in Karnataka employing more than 3,000 people.
“This expansion reflects ABB’s long-term commitment to India and our local-for-local strategy. By strengthening our manufacturing and technology capabilities in Karnataka, we are bringing advanced ABB technologies closer to customers and supporting India’s infrastructure growth,” said Sanjeev Sharma.
As part of the expansion, ABB’s Motion business is adding two new manufacturing units at its Peenya campus covering 6,100 sq. metres.
The facility will manufacture energy-efficient motors, including flameproof motors, roller table variants and smoke ventilation models, along with low-voltage drives and programmable logic controllers.
The campus will also house a service and training centre equipped with digital tools and remote diagnostics.
At Nelamangala, ABB has set up a 16,470 sq. metre multi-business manufacturing hub to expand production for its Electrification and Automation businesses.
The facility will support smart power technologies, system interface units, gas analyzer systems, blending operations, excitation systems and high-power rectifiers.
Manufacturing of power management solutions for data centres is expected to increase significantly at the new campus. ABB’s low and medium voltage systems already power more than 30 per cent of India’s hyperscale data centres.
ABB recently announced an investment of USD 75 million in 2026 to expand manufacturing and research capabilities in India and create more than 300 new skilled jobs.
This follows an investment of over USD 35 million in 2025, reinforcing the company’s “local-for-local” manufacturing strategy.
The expansion is expected to further strengthen Karnataka’s industrial ecosystem by boosting advanced manufacturing, skill development and regional supplier networks.
