Bengaluru: Ola Electric, India’s largest electric vehicle company, has marked a major diversification beyond mobility with the launch of Ola Shakti, its first residential Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).
With this move, Ola has entered the fast-growing ₹1 lakh crore Indian BESS market — projected to triple to ₹3 lakh crore by 2030 — positioning itself at the forefront of the nation’s transition to clean, decentralized, and self-reliant energy.
Powered by Ola’s indigenous 4680 Bharat Cells, Ola Shakti is India’s first residential BESS fully designed, engineered, and manufactured domestically.
The product represents a paradigm shift in how Indian homes, farms, and businesses consume and store electricity — moving from dependence on erratic grids and polluting diesel generators to smart, portable and sustainable energy on demand.
Speaking at the launch, Bhavish Aggarwal, Founder and CMD of Ola Electric, said, “With Ola Shakti, we are turning that opportunity into energy independence. We have built world-class battery and cell technology for electric mobility — and now, Ola Shakti extends that innovation to homes, helping them store and use clean energy intelligently. By leveraging our 4680 cell technology, Gigafactory production capabilities, and nationwide distribution network, we can scale rapidly with zero incremental Capex or R&D investment.”
Ola Shakti is based on the same automotive-grade 4680 cell technology that powers Ola’s EVs, ensuring exceptional durability, efficiency (up to 98 percent), and zero maintenance costs.
Its IP67-certified batteries are tested for dust, water, and monsoon conditions, offering unmatched reliability even in India’s toughest environments.
The system is available in four scalable configurations — 1.5 kWh, 3 kWh, 5.2 kWh, and 9.1 kWh — priced at an introductory ₹29,999, ₹55,999, ₹1,19,999, and ₹1,59,999 respectively, for the first 10,000 units. Reservations has opened at ₹999, with deliveries scheduled to begin on Makar Sankranti 2026.
Built on Ola’s core technology DNA, Ola Shakti transforms energy management into a smart, connected experience. Users can monitor real-time battery status, schedule Time-of-Day (ToD) charging, prioritise backup, receive remote diagnostics, and get Over-the-Air (OTA) software updates. The system automatically learns household energy patterns to optimise usage and deliver actionable insights that help save both money and energy.
The product’s modular, compact design allows for easy stacking, installation, and servicing — making it suitable for urban apartments, rural households, and small commercial setups alike.
It can power appliances such as air conditioners, refrigerators, farm pumps, and communication equipment, with charging times as low as two hours and backup capacity of up to 1.5 hours on full load.
Ola expects its annual Gigafactory consumption for BESS to scale up to 5 GWh, eventually surpassing its automotive battery demand within the next few years.
The company plans to extend its energy storage ecosystem from residential use to grid-scale deployments, all built on the same Bharat Cell technology platform and backed by Ola’s Gigafactory infrastructure.
