Bengaluru: In a bid to enhance the transportation capabilities of the Indian Army, the Ministry of Defence has signed a contract worth Rs.197.35 crore with M/s Ashok Leyland Defence Systems Ltd for the supply of 500 pre-fabricated short chassis buses, a release from the Press Information Bureau, Defence wing, has said.  

These buses, with reinforced structure, are equipped with advanced technology and safety features, capable of operating in extreme rugged and mountainous terrain.  As a result, they will greatly enhance the operational reach of the Indian Army.

The procurement being a Buy (Indian-IDDM) case will not only boost indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities but also lead to sustained employment generation. 

The present case will play a pivotal role as the flag-bearer of our endeavour for an ‘Aatmnirbhar Bharat’, the government release said.
